Contrarily, “fake news” refers to fabricated or inaccurate stories passed off as real. It’s commonly meant to deceive, which might be harmful to the general populace.

In the fight against fake news, media literacy is essential. It teaches people how to recognise false information, analyse media messages in their proper context, and establish their own independent opinions. People are less prone to believe false information if they have developed a critical perspective on the media.

Despite its significance, promoting media literacy faces a number of obstacles. The sheer volume of available data, the persistence of long-held views, and the speed with which technology advances all contribute to this. Furthermore, there is a lack of widespread access to media literacy instruction as well as a lack of standardised curriculum and materials.

These problems require a multipronged strategy for resolution.
