The Reasons Why Poor People Suffer More when Subsidy is removed

The elimination of subsidies may have a devastating effect on the lives of the poor, notably in terms of their ability to acquire food, housing, and healthcare. When subsidies are cut, the price of necessities like food and medicine goes up, making it harder for low-income people to make ends meet. Increased poverty, less access to healthcare and education, and fewer prospects for economic progress are some of the potential outcomes for the poor.

Because they depend so largely on these subsidies to cover their fundamental necessities, low-income individuals suffer more when they are eliminated. If fuel subsidies are cut, for instance, those on low incomes may have a harder time affording transit to and from their places of employment or other necessities. Because of this, they may be less able to provide for themselves and their families in other ways, such as by working or going to school.

Price hikes for necessities like food and power are a possible result of subsidy elimination. Because these requirements take up a disproportionate amount of low-income people’s budgets, price hikes can have a devastating effect on their quality of life. This can worsen the cycle of poverty by leading to issues like hunger, poor living conditions, and lack of resources.

Removing subsidies can also have a detrimental effect on the quality of low-income students’ educational opportunities. Subsidies are typically a major factor in reducing the financial burden of higher education for low-income households.

It may become more difficult for low-income families to pay for their children’s education if government subsidies are cut. As a result, low-income pupils may be less likely to register in school and more likely to drop out, reducing their future prospects.

The elimination of subsidies may exacerbate the difficulties currently faced by the poor. Policymakers should think about how eliminating subsidies would affect disadvantaged groups and take steps to cushion any negative effects. Increased spending on schools and hospitals, as well as initiatives to foster broad-based economic expansion, may fall under this category.
