Increases in the cost of transportation for both consumers and enterprises may result, for instance, from the elimination of fuel subsidies. This can have far-reaching consequences for the economy as a whole because of the link between transportation costs and final product pricing. Removal of public transportation subsidies can also make public transportation less accessible for people with low incomes and people living in rural regions who may rely on it as their major means of mobility.
