CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

An organization irrespective of its nature should be focus usually expressed at it objective. In determining the objective of an organization, the top management or the founder should be able to look at the strength and weakness of the organization on one hand and the opportunities and threats in the other hand. This is known as “SWOT” analysis it very important in guide the seller of the objective to set realizable goal for an organization it has been a major problem for top management over the years.

In 1954 Drucker came up with management by objective (MBO) according to Pamala, S. Lewis et al (1995) MBO approach to planning helps manager to balance conflict demand by focusing the attention of the manager and the employee on the task to be completed and performance to be achieve at individual level M.C Larkely (2012) define MBO as a system approach to managing an organization according to him MBO is not a technique or just another progamme or a narrow area of the process of managing  what he maintains.

 

1.2       STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The problem that necessitated this study include; lack of effective communication skill, that can lead to a decrease of productivity and low rate of intense education background low level of technological know-how low level of income (finance), lack of proper/ essential managerial tools.

Mix information: some of the concept and principle thought are two academic and they are very difficult to apply in real like situation.

1.3       OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

  1. To examine how management by objective (MBO) can be a serving tool for greater productivity.
  2. To find out if there is a relationship between organizational success and management by objective

1.4       RESEARCH QUESTIONS

In order to elicit relevant information needed to solve the problem as identified in the study the question where ask;

  1. How does management by objective can be a serving for toll for greater productivity?
  2. What is the relationship between organization success and management by objective?

1.5       RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

H0: There is no significant relationship between organization success and management by objective.

H1: There is a significant relationship between organization success and management by objective.

H0: The company success does not depend on the application if management by objective.

H1: The company success depends on the application if management by objective.

The MBO beyond were budgeting management by objective is a system that can plans. This is because the planner (manager) with the help of MBO know where he is going or where he wants to take the organization to or what is to be achieved.

1.6       SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will be useful to the management of any organization especially the production unit of any production firm, also to the management of the case study “forever living product in Nigeria”

1.7       SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope of the study is the extent to which the study will cover in term of geographical areas, the mastic issue and this very study focuses on the effect of management by objective, a tool, for greater, productivity in forever living product (Nigeria) ltd. The study will be useful to the management of the company in case study.

1.8       LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Its major limitation was the problem of getting information from the management by objective. As an organization, there is always the fear of giving out information to the public as such vital information needed was not readily available. According to Donald. R.C (2001) every method and aspects of firms operation should be investigated to find out better way of solving operation problem using scientific method.

1.9       DEFINITION OF TERMS.        

Following relevant terminology used in the study are here by defined below;

Employees: A person paid to work for somebody

Management by objective: This is a situation where manager set with subordinate and work with in achieving their objective.

Organization: A group of people who from a business crew together in order to achieve a particular aim.

Objective: This is a desired result to be obtained.

Performance standard: Thus term refer to a target or specific goal, set to be attained base on which compare can be made.

Planning: It involves setting a goal and defining the action workforce. This term refer to the employee who provide labour to the per4formance of organizational activities.
