CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

We describe an application of artificial intelligence techniques to Bajaj motorcycle fault diagnosis; in particular, to implemented an automated consultant that advises people in mechanical field service personnel on the diagnosis of faults occurring in Bajaj motorcycle. The consultant identifies specific Bajaj motorcycle spare part likely to be responsible for an observed fault and offers a brief explanation of the major factors and evidence supporting these indictments. The consultant, called DART, was constructed using HMYCIN, and is part of a larger research effort investigating automated diagnosis of motorcycle faults. Lack of sufficient knowledge in handling hardware damage caused most of the general public or a mechanic cannot identify the location of the damage that occurs in Bajaj motorcycle. So much so those mechanics charge a fee large enough only to repair the damage that occurs in the specialist motorcycle.

For that felt the need to build software that can help solve the problem of damage to Bajaj motorcycle. Software that will be built must be able to present the correct solution, accurate, reasonable and efficient. Believed to be the development and use of appropriate software, each Bajaj motorcycle owners can save time and cost that should be spent for purposes that are far more important. Software is a web-based software system that adopts the expert Knowledge that comes from an experienced i the diagnosis and ways of handling hardware damage to Bajaj motorcycle. With the construction of expert systems detecting fault in Bajaj motorcycle. Hardware, damage is expected to provide freedom of access anywhere in assisting Bajaj motorcycle owners in dealing with problems Bajaj motorcycle to provide an accurate solution, so it can reduce time and costs to overcome the problems of damage Bajaj motorcycle hardware.

1.2       STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS

In dealing with problems of Bajaj motorcycle and troubleshooting, mechanics are those who can help to solve them. The use of a computer expert system is beneficial in different ways. It gives a temporary and instant guide to motorcycle owners in different situations like:

• When mechanic support is unavailable
• When we are in a hurry
• When distance to mechanics location is far
• When mechanics diagnosis wrongly

1.3       AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The main aim   is to design and implement an Automated analysis system for detecting and solving problem in Bajaj motorcycle with easy access to diagnosis and repair of Bajaj motorcycle by designing a software which is very flexible and information easily accessible by anybody, anywhere in the world who is a Bajaj motorcycle user and have a problems with any of its motorcycle components.

OBJECTIVES

1. To eliminate the unpleasant behavior of a Bajaj motorcycle technicians towards the Baja motor cycle users in the process.
2. To keep the system up-to-date with the latest technological components, problems and how to repair them.

• To bring improvement and progress for both Bajaj motorcycle users and technicians in the process of diagnosis and repairs of the Bajaj motorcycle

1.4       SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The scope of my study is to showcase diagnosis and repairs of a Bajaj motorcycle. It will enable easy access to the diagnosis and repair without the need of Bajaj motorcycle technicians/engineers.

LIMITATIONS

The limitation of the study is basically on keeping records of Bajaj motorcycle problems of all the Bajaj motorcycle and possible solution on how to repair.

1.5       SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Based on the problems studied the purpose of this studies is to build an expert system to diagnose a Bajaj motorcycle repairs and provide instruction handling a Bajaj motorcycle.

While the goal of this research is:

• Building a software expert system for troubleshooting Bajaj motorcycle component damage with a very good diagnostic accuracy.
• Provide information to the user ease in finding the location of the Bajaj motorcycle problems that occur on a Bajaj motorcycle without having to hire experts, so that is expected to reduce the cost of repairs if damage occurs.

• To investigate the lacks of the current system in terms of modern technology appliances that support computer repairs services and suggest ways of updating them.
• To improve in the speed, effectiveness, efficiency and convenience in a Bajaj motorcycle repairs.

1.6       DEFINITIONOF TERM

DIAGNOSIS: The identifying of the nature or cause of something, especially a problem or fault.

REPAIRS: To restore something broken or damaged to good condition

COMPONENTS: These are referring to a Bajaj motorcycle parts like piston, chain, caporatoret.

TECHNICIAN: Somebody who is skilled in industrial techniques or the practical application of a science

ENGINEER: Somebody who is trained as a professional engineer.

SOLUTION:A method of successfully dealing with a problem or difficulty.

TROUBLESHOOTING: Process of finding solution to a problem
