CHAPTER ONE

GENERAL INTRODUCTION

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Production control system provides strict quality control with a lot of tracking functions. As fully integrated with other systems such as financial management system and cost management system, data processing is efficiency done and data integrity is maintained. Management can derive information necessary for decision making from different modules integrated to the production management system. It gives them ways to evaluate performance of each department in the company especially in production. In addition, information is disseminated accordingly. If the production results adequately meet the requirement of production schedule plan, it shows that an affective production management system is utilized.

According to S. Anil Kumar (2008), production control is the process of planning the production in advance, setting the exact route for each item, fixing the starting and finishing dates for each item, to give production orders to shops and to follow up the progress of products according to orders. The principle of production planning and control lies in the statement “first plan your work and then work on your plan”.

1.1 STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS

This research intends to provide answers to the following questions through the system analysis and design of a computerized production control management information system in Coca-Cola Company, Kano. Problems identified with the present management information system of the organization are as follows:

As a result of the huge customer base, it may be impossible to maintain the purity of the product in terms of consistency to the customers.
Inadequate quantity of resources due to high demand.
Unskilled factory or machine operators.
Misplacement of requirement for production.
Poor calculation of quantity of resources to be used for production.
Distribution network: the company has got an average distribution network this is one of the reason why companies fail to fulfil the demand of the customer time. It must go for some more bottling channels to increase the sales in the best possible manner.

1.2 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The aims and objective of this project therefore is to design basic program that can be used towards providing answers to all the questions in the previous section. The researchers also intend to introduce a computerized production control management information system as a better replacement for the existing manual ones in-use by the company.

1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will benefit the organization in so many ways as briefly highlighted in the following:

Reduction in labour requirement: The number of staff required will be reduced and that will reduce labour costs.
Enhanced production efficiency as the new system will be faster and effective.
Accuracy of information.
Simplified process of information and management.

1.4 SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This research work focus on the design of a computerized production control management information system. It will further held the management with information that will determine the production rate of the organization daily it will further give proper account about materials used by the company and help to control the material used during production.

This study was limited to only few production sites at Kano South. But despite these limitations, the researcher has been able to use his best capacity to gather good effective appropriate and actual facts.
