CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • Background Of The Study

Many Christians and church leaders first rejected ICT, either criticizing it or ignoring it, and as a result, the world seized control of it. It’s eerily similar to what took place between Adam and the devil. As God’s representative on Earth, Adam was given dominion over the natural world. By that authority, Adam didn’t have to listen to Satan; he should have reprimanded Satan as the one in authority, but instead he failed and gave Satan control over his choices. The Church appears to have made the same error here at the outset of information and communication technologies.

Self-described as “information and communications technology,” or “ICT,” is an acronym. No additional study or reasoning is required for us to grasp the concept of ICT. So, the Church can both inform and be informed, communicate and be communicated, and use a wide variety of instruments specifically intended for the purpose of communicating and informing efficiently, all thanks to ICT. There’s no use in debating whether or not ICT is helpful for the Church; it’s blindingly evident that ICT helps the Church carry out its mission to make disciples of all nations more effectively. Because of the Holy Spirit’s empowerment, the Church may easily seize control of the information technology sector.

People who live in places where churches aren’t present or in nations where Christians are persecuted may still learn about Christianity and participate in Church activities today without having to construct a church or travel far to a place of worship. It has been stated that many individuals have put their faith in Jesus Christ as a result of being exposed to Christian teachings in the form of articles or videos found on the internet. Because of modern forms of information and communication technology, the Church is more open to dialogue than ever before. Jesus may have had a website and social media accounts if he had access to the internet during his lifetime.

  • Statement Of The Problem

A lot of people do not give much thought to the role that technology (or the technical side of ministry) plays in the spread of the gospel and the growth of the church. Everything from the acoustics that allow us to sing hymns and hear the sermon clearly to the air conditioning that keeps us comfortable throughout services is a product of technological advancements.

From the time the first evangelist testified over the radio waves to the present day web broadcasts and television networks devoted to faith, technology has played and will continue to play a significant role in how pastors and evangelists participate in church functions and how churches stay in touch with their congregations.

When it comes to knowledge, technology is a gift. What matters is how you put it to use. Churches, religious and community groups, and philanthropic organizations today use the internet and global communications technology in a broad range of ways to reach out to people all over the world. More cutting-edge tools will likely be integrated into acts of worship as time goes on and novel applications are found for existing tools.

Thus, many church leaders have still to acknowledge and accept the use and influence of ICT in evangelism and even on the church ministry and growth correspondingly, and this has caused, and is still causing, some setbacks in fulfilling the Great Commission.
