CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

Immorality could be termed as inability to train the mind and character. A state of immorality could be defined as the uncontrolled conduct either by individual or any other external body.

However, everybody that fails to abide with any control of conduct either by himself or any external authority is said to be lacking moral education.

Moral education means a system of guiding the individual to make reasonable and responsible decision. It can also be seen as the means by which a person is trained in orderliness, good and conduct and the habit of getting the best out of individuals. And in classroom teaching able goods as a means of control of class to achieve desirable goods, as a means of features of the school life. In general, moral education involves self control. A moral education individual knows and takes the right course of action.

Moral education behaviour, involves characteristics such as self sacrifice, diligence, cooperation, integrity consideration for others, fear of god and sympathy. All this is transferred to the school because education sees the school as a miniatures society where we have people of different character from parents and background natural tendency and behaviours.

The school as also sees as an agent socialization to the individuals who are said to have involvement in the affairs of the school may include: academic staff, pupils, food vendors, parents, occasional visitor summit society which are generally referred to as rules and regulation designed for easy control, coordinators, management and co-existence at the people in the school (not the pupils alone but for the generality of the people in the school) to guide and check excess and maintain uniformity in behaviour of the people in the school. That is why the mode of life in school differ from each other for example in one school, any pupils that come half past seven in the morning can be regarded as being late to the school, where as the time stipulated may be eight o’clock in some schools.

Anybody, there fore found going or deviating from such acceptable or accepted norms and regulations of the school is said to be immorality. Not withstanding, there are some generally, acceptable or accepted rules and regulations common to almost all the schools particularly the school visited for this study. The fact of immorality being noticed include stealing, fighting, examination malpractices, truancy, disobeying teacher. All these are not strange in schools.

Also, there are many social ills and vice which have plagued our societies nowadays and which are by products of immorality these includes drug trafficking, robbery, embezzlement, assault, laxity, lateness to duty, adultery and fornication, gabbling, abortion e.t.c.

However, immorality could also be perceived as problems of human behaviour or moral education lead progress in any society including schools, immorality leads to breath down of law and order it also leads to pupils astray, this goes against social convention, it is then possible for one to believe that there are accepted norms or what is known as rules and regulations which tends towards fostering proper co-existence and good interaction among the dwellers and the members of society concerned are aware of the rules and regulations which are made to their own advantages, why friends we have deviants? “It is their idea that brings us to the question of what are the causes of this act of immorality in school”.

Is it true that people are deliberately violating or deviating from the rules? If yes, what can be said to be responsible for such deliberate deviant action? Are they forced to be so by curtaining factor what are the factor? What can parents do to help this situation what can teacher’s do?

All the above questions are what will be examined and fully ensures at the end of the study.

It is true that it has been identified any general accepted that there are many of some act of immorality in  our primary school nowadays as compared with what has been the case in some years, people are also aware at the spread of his immorality.
