Free Essay – How I Spent my Independence Day in India

On the morning of August 15th, I awoke to a palpable feeling of national pride and patriotism. It was a beautiful, sunny day, just suitable for India’s Independence Day celebrations. The Indian national hymn was playing in the background, and I could see the flag waving in the breeze.

I ate breakfast quickly and then put on a kurta that boldly exhibited the saffron, white, and green of the Indian flag. After that, I made my way to the community centre where we were having the flag-raising ceremony. My heart leapt for excitement at the sight of the tricolour flying high against the azure sky.

Children from the neighbourhood performed dances and performances on India’s freedom fighters and the country’s rich cultural history after the event concluded. The performances and the sense of community in the audience left me feeling inspired.

Following the event, a group of friends and I paid a visit to a retirement community. We intended to have a little party for the locals. Together, we swapped tales, danced, and sung songs of patriotism. The joy on their cheeks brightened our day irreplaceably.

Later that day, I went downtown to see a parade. The parade was quite the spectacular event, with floats from each of India’s states displaying the rich cultural diversity of the country. Patriotic music and chants in support of India filled the air.

A stunning fireworks show lit up the night sky as the day came to a close. Every splash of colour made me think of the struggles of our freedom warriors and the wonderful variety of people that make up our country.

That night, as I laid in bed, I thought back on the day. I was overcome with appreciation for the liberties we enjoy now and recommitted to doing my part for the betterment of my nation. This Independence Day was more than simply a day off or a holiday. It was a chance to reflect on the past, rejoice in the present, and look forward to the future. I’ve never been more proud of my Indian heritage than on that day.
